The match was a rollercoaster of fortunes, particularly for the English side. After winning the toss and opting to bat, England looked set for a commanding total, thanks to a sensational 137-run opening partnership between Sophia Dunkley (75 off 53 balls) and Danni Wyatt-Hodge (66). However, a dramatic collapse saw England lose an astonishing nine wickets for just 31 runs in 25 deliveries, finishing their innings at 171/9. Indian bowlers Deepti Sharma (3/27) and Arundhati Reddy (3/32) were instrumental in triggering this remarkable turnaround. Deepti Sharma’s triple strike also saw her reach the milestone of 300 international wickets, joining an elite group of women cricketers.

Chasing 172 for victory, India’s innings began strongly with openers Smriti Mandhana (56) and Shafali Verma (47) putting on an 85-run stand. However, England’s bowlers, particularly Lauren Filer (2/30), fought back fiercely, picking up crucial wickets at regular intervals. The pressure mounted in the death overs, and despite a valiant effort from the Indian middle order, they ultimately fell five runs short, finishing on 166/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

The series has been a captivating display of women’s cricket. India had dominated the first two T20Is, winning the opener by a record 97-run margin and the second by 24 runs, with Smriti Mandhana’s historic maiden T20I century in the first match being a significant highlight.

With the series now finely poised at 2-1, all eyes will be on the remaining two T20Is. The fourth match is scheduled for July 9 at Old Trafford in Manchester, followed by the final T20I at Edgbaston on July 12. Fans can expect more thrilling action as both teams vie for supremacy in this highly competitive series.
