The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting of South Asian Olympic countries, held on the sidelines of the 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in Tashkent.
The meeting was chaired by Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, OCA Vice President for South Asia, and attended by Presidents and Secretaries General of National Olympic Committees from eight South Asian countries.
Pakistan was represented by Arif Saeed, President of the Pakistan Olympic Association and South Asian Olympic Council, accompanied by Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination.
Wani conveyed the Government of Pakistan’s firm commitment to successfully hosting the Games and assured full support for all logistical, security, and operational requirements.
After deliberations, the South Asian Olympic family authorized the Pakistan Olympic Association and NOC Pakistan to finalize operational arrangements, including flexibility to adjust the schedule within a one-week window if needed.
It was agreed that the list of sports disciplines and events will remain unchanged, as previously finalized during the SAOC Executive Committee Meeting in Lahore on February 25, 2025.
Federal Secretary Wani also invited South Asian countries to visit Pakistan in May 2026 to review preparations and strengthen regional sports cooperation ahead of the Games.
Originally scheduled for March 2023, the South Asian Games were postponed twice, first to March 2024 and then to January 2026, before being firmly rescheduled for March 2027.
The upcoming Games place Pakistan back on the regional sporting map and reinforce its role as a capable and committed host of major international multi-sport events.
