The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has taken flight – and quite literally, grounded two airlines – in response to rampant flight delays and passenger rights violations. Serene Air and Air Blue are the latest to face the music, slapped with show-cause notices on January 2nd and 15th, respectively.

Hundreds of passengers have been left stranded or subjected to lengthy waiting times due to delays and cancellations. PCAA is not mincing words, warning both airlines that failure to explain these “serious lapses” could result in harsh penalties, including hefty fines, license suspensions, even flight cancellations.
The notices detail how both airlines “disregarded established regulatory standards” by failing to operate flights on time, causing significant disruption. PCAA is sending a clear message: passenger safety, comfort, and convenience are paramount, and airlines operating within Pakistani airspace must adhere to the highest industry standards.
This crackdown comes amid increasing complaints from passengers frustrated with delays and cancellations. Airlines, already facing financial strains, might find these penalties and potential operational reductions an additional burden. However, PCAA’s stance could set a precedent for improved service and accountability within the Pakistani aviation industry.
Whether these notices translate into immediate improvements for passengers remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the days of airlines taking Pakistani skies and passenger time for granted might be numbered.
