The federal government, freshly elected, announced a surge in petrol prices by Rs. 9.66 per liter on Sunday night, just before the onset of Eid ul Fitr, setting the new rate at Rs. 289.41 per liter for the upcoming two weeks. This marked a significant increase from the previous price of Rs. 279.75, as stated in a notification by the Finance Division. Concurrently, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) underwent a decline of Rs. 3.32, now standing at Rs. 285.56 per liter.

Attributing these adjustments to the government’s policy of aligning domestic fuel prices with global market fluctuations, the Ministry of Finance issued a statement to this effect. This move follows a similar downward revision of HSD prices in mid-March 2024, underscoring the government’s commitment to passing on international price variations to consumers.
In the previous petroleum price review on March 15, 2024, the federal government opted to maintain the price of petrol unchanged while implementing a reduction of Rs. 1.77 per liter for high-speed diesel, bringing it to Rs. 285.56 per liter. These successive adjustments in fuel prices reflect the government’s efforts to balance domestic market dynamics with global economic shifts.
