Pakistan Approves National Space Policy and Cyber Crime Agency for Tech Advancement

On Wednesday, the federal cabinet greenlit three groundbreaking initiatives for Pakistan’s IT and telecom sector, headlined by the nation’s inaugural National Space Policy. This policy is set to overhaul Pakistan’s space program, unlocking opportunities for private-sector entities to deliver cost-effective internet services. Beyond technological progress, this move is poised to attract increased investments, propelling growth in the burgeoning space industry.

In a bid to fortify the digital landscape, the federal cabinet also sanctioned the establishment of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). Endowed with essential expertise, funding, and resources, NCCIA is primed to play a pivotal role in combating cybercrimes nationwide. This strategic initiative represents a significant stride in fortifying the country’s digital infrastructure.

Additionally, the cabinet approved the establishment of specialized Telecom Tribunals, aiming to streamline legal processes and enhance efficiency within the telecom sector. This decision is anticipated to expedite the resolution of court cases and disputes, ensuring a seamless deployment of the 5G spectrum and sustaining uninterrupted progress in the industry.

Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Dr. Umar Saif, lauded these transformative measures for the IT and telecom sector. The Prime Minister acknowledged the collaborative efforts behind the development of the country’s space policy, spearheaded by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, SUPARCO, the Ministry of Defence, and affiliated institutions. These decisions signal a forward-looking approach, positioning Pakistan at the forefront of technological innovation and cybersecurity.
