Sources said the discussions are focused on aligning locally produced handsets with upcoming 5G requirements and ensuring devices are ready ahead of the planned spectrum auction.
Officials said Pakistan currently has 36 mobile phone manufacturing companies, including domestic and international brands, producing handsets for the local market.
The PTA has asked manufacturers to share input on the availability of 5G-compatible devices, production capacity, affordability, and expected timelines to support the rollout.
According to sources, the government plans to conduct the 5G spectrum auction by the end of February 2026.
The auction is viewed as a key step towards expanding high-speed connectivity and enabling advanced digital services across the country.
Officials said early engagement with manufacturers is aimed at addressing potential challenges related to device availability and consumer adoption.
Coordinated planning between regulators, telecom operators, and manufacturers is seen as essential to ensure 5G services are widely accessible once launched.
